CaRA API Launch - June 2025

Updated over 7 months ago

Overview

We’re excited to announce the launch of the CARA API, a long-requested enhancement now available to customers using our Crash and Rollover Alerting products.

The new API allows customers to subscribe to crash, rollover, and other priority alert notifications - such as duress button activations—via API.

This enables seamless integration with your existing monitoring or incident response systems, helping centralize and strengthen how you manage critical events across your fleet.

Key Benefits

  • Near Real-time alert delivery via API

  • Detailed alert payload including driver, location, time, speed, and alert type

  • Supports crash, rollover, and priority alerts (e.g. duress button)

  • No additional cost for existing CARA customers with configured vehicles

  • Flexible scope: API can be called at the fleet or organization level

How to Enable

To activate the API and integrate it into your systems, simply head to the MyEROAD portal, navigate to the Integrations section, and open the API documentation. You'll find everything you need to get started, including authentication steps, endpoint URLs, and response examples.

Designed for Centralized Monitoring

This API is ideal for organizations with 24/7 monitoring systems or centralized control rooms, allowing them to automatically ingest and respond to critical events without relying solely on email-based alerts.

If you’re already using CARA and want to elevate your response capabilities, the new API is ready for you.

FAQs

Why should I switch to the API instead of using email notifications?

The CARA API provides a more reliable and robust delivery mechanism than email.

  • It includes status codes so your systems know whether an event was received or if the service is unavailable.

  • We’ve implemented real-time monitoring to ensure API uptime and alerting.

  • It avoids common issues with email, such as messages ending up in spam or key people being accidentally removed from distribution lists.

  • With the API, your system is always subscribed and ready to receive alerts—no risk of human error or missed handovers.

What’s included in a CARA API notification?

The API provides the same level of detail as the email version, including:

  • Vehicle and driver details

  • Event type (e.g. crash, rollover, duress)

  • Location and timestamp

  • Speed and other relevant context

Can I use the API and email notifications at the same time?

Yes. You can continue to receive email notifications alongside the API

Who can use the CARA API?

Any customer with a CARA subscription/service plan addon and vehicles with crash or rollover detection configured and active is eligible to use the API—at no additional cost.

Any vehicle with one of the following Service Plan Add-ons will be eligible to generate CARA events, which will automatically be available on the CARA API:

  • G70 Accident Detection

  • Driver Safety - Collision & roll over alert - Rental

How do I get started with the API?

Log in to the MyEROAD portal, go to the Integrations page, and access the API documentation. You’ll find everything needed to authenticate and subscribe to events.

Can I restrict alerts to just specific fleets?

Yes. The API supports both fleet-level and organization-wide subscriptions, so you can tailor alert delivery to your operational structure.

What happens if there are no CARA events? How do I know it’s working?

With email, silence could mean either “no events” or “an issue.” With the API, you can:

  • Monitor response codes to verify the connection is active.

Can I get historical CARA events through the API?

Not at this stage. The API is currently designed for real-time event delivery only.

Are CARA heartbeat events / missed heart beat sent via the API?

No at this stage
